[09:27 *nirvana:] # *dmesg | *grep -*i *lp
[ 5.870665] *lp0: utilizando *parport0 (interrumpe-conducido).

#dmesg | grep parport
[ 24.396458] parport_pc 00:0a: reported by Plug and Play ACPI
[ 24.398699] parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP,TRISTATE]

It is being reported by the kernel on all these machines?

Mark

Nope, it is just reported on the box with the /dev/lp0 node present:

Arch Linux *with* /dev/lp0:

[09:27 nirvana:~] # dmesg | grep -i lp
[ 5.870665] lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).

openSuSE 11.4 and Arch Linux *without* /dev/lp0 generate no dmesg statement regarding lp or para anything....
