Qué normalmente está para - *wildcard.
En la página manual *AUTOFS(5) dice
<cita>
Llave de Mapa *Substitution
    Un & carácter en la ubicación es expandido al valor del campo
    clave que emparejó la línea (cuál probablemente sentido de marcas únicas
    junto con un *wildcard llave).
*Wildcard Llave
    Un * en el campo clave empareja todas las llaves. Un ejemplo para
    el *usefulness es el siguiendo entrada:
 	* &:/en casa/&
    Esto te habilitará para acceder todo el directorio de casa de los anfitriones
    locales que utilizan el camino /*mountpoint/*hostname/local-camino.

What it usually stands for - wildcard.
In the manual page AUTOFS(5) it says
<quote>
Map Key Substitution
    An & character in the location is expanded to the value of the key
    field that matched the line (which probably only makes sense
    together with a wildcard key).
Wildcard Key
    A * in the key field matches all keys. An example for the
    usefulness is the following entry:
 	* &:/home/&
    This will enable you to access all the home directory of local
    hosts using the path /mountpoint/hostname/local-path.
</quote>

Please see the docuemntation. (i.e RTFM)
